Shadow Smith

July 14, 2008 — June 28, 2024

Burlington

Shadow was adopted on 6/9/09 from the Greensboro Animal Shelter, where Alexis & “Grandma” went looking for just the “perfect” dog. We came home with Shadow that day, the people at the shelter were so thankful as Shadow had been returned to the shelter 2 times, and his days were “numbered”.

Shadow was a very smart dog and a quick learner. He learned many tricks quickly, which brought laughter and applause when he performed. He received his K9 Good Citizens Award and visited his Great Grandma at the nursing home a lot. Shadow “worked” security at The Very Thing for his Aunt Leigh Jones for several years. Shadow loved doing the agility training both at the course and at home in the backyard with Alexis. He enjoyed walks with “Grandpa” multiple times a day, especially in his older years & taking naps in the bed with Grandma on Saturday & Sunday afternoon (or whenever possible).

Shadow also enjoyed riding in the car with his head hanging out (what dog doesn’t). He didn’t love the longer trips to the mountains, but when we got there, he was very happy. He enjoyed the hikes and trying to chase the wildlife. We appreciate all those who helped look after him when we did have to go away without him.

Shadow’s Grandpa took exceptional care of him - especially in his older years, making sure he got his medicines, got to go outside for fresh air, exercise as well as any other needs he had which allowed Shadow to be a part of this family even longer.

When people asked what kind of dog Shadow was, Alexis would always respond, “he’s a PURE- BRED GOOD Boy”! And that he was!!!

Shadow crosses the Rainbow Bridge leaving his mom, Alexis Smith and sister Piper, Grandparents Todd & Beverly Smith, Uncle, Matt Johnson (Taylor/Tori & Mack (his cubs)), Cousin – “Bubba” Johnson, as well as his “Special Friend” – “Lucy” Perry.

Until we meet again Shadow, run free with no restrictions and no pain!! Thank you for ALL the love and companionship you brought to our family.
