When Charlie first arrived at our house, he quickly changed our understanding of home and love. He was always talkative, with a unique chirp that sounded much like a quacking duck, and he never shied from telling us where he wanted to be and what he wanted to do. Charlie was an intelligent, charming and outgoing spirit who constantly sought mischief, cozy couch cuddles, adventures in the backyard on his leash and harness, and pets. The smallest things, like changing the bed sheets, would fill him with joy, meows and zoomies.
One of his favorite mischievous haunts was to thunder back and forth down the hall with his ungraceful gait, eager to greet you with his quack-chirping or to follow you room to room when he wanted snuggles or to play. Though not a particularly big cat, his scramble was so urgent and thunderous that the sound can only be described by the popular cat phrase, “Oh lawd he comin’.”
Charlie was fascinated by watching the birds outside, and loved soaking in the sun by the back door, sitting with mom in her chair each morning, and lounging on the lawn mower seat. Most of all he loved people, and would warm our hearts by seeking us with a quiet meow and paw across our chest, often snuggling family members through the night. Charlie’s conversations, cuddles, and companionship will be deeply missed.
